“After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count” (Rev. 7:9). This is a beautiful image, you have to admit, standing before the throne of God, worshiping God. John is seeing people from all walks of life, in a multi-cultural context, worshiping God.
Today, we have more children in worship than our church has experienced in many years. They are multi-cultural, from all walks of life, and it is a beautiful image that we must build upon and nurture, any way we can. Just as David “served the purpose of God in his own generation” (Acts 13:36), our church must serve the purpose of God for this generation and others, if we desire to continue moving forward and remain as a vital presence. The mission committee is attempting to define the mission/prayer statement of Algiers United Methodist Church and request everyone’s prayerful input. We need to build upon our past tradition in order to get to the point of bridging toward a future tradition. We are having to do some hard thinking, rethinking, and soul searching in order to be relevant and reach out to the multi-cultured community within our unique setting. Over the next few weeks, pray and ask God to show you a vision for our church’s future. We need a prayer statement that frames who we are so that all of our ministries stay centered on loving God and our neighbor. I know a church that is building community relations, as we are presently doing, is a church serving the purpose of God. See you at the Gathering Place, where everyone is someone!
