The Plumb Line

There are so many symbols of our faith:  the cross, star, dove, butterfly, heart, fish, anchor, boat, crown, angel, shepherd, lamb, bread, cup, and the plumb line.

Wait…the plumb line?  Did you know that it too is a symbol for our faith?   A carpenter–like Jesus–would know why.   And so would a prophet like Amos who used the plumb line as an example  to challenge the people of his day.

Amos was the same prophet who called upon his people to “Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing steam!”  Long ago his words fell on deaf ears, and history would record the tragic consequences of that deafness.

Hundreds of years later, his words come ringing down through the ages and hang like a carpenter’s plumb line in our midst today.  What can we learn from Amos’ powerful message?

Plan to be present on Sunday as we open our Bibles to the Book of Amos and read about this fearless hero of our faith!

Grace and Peace,
Callie
